Danske sømænd reddes af den engelske kystvagt under Anden Verdenskrig. Deres skib blev torpederet i Atlanten, og de havde alle 50 drevet rundt i 40 timer, før de blev opdaget. Ingen mistede livet. Bagpå fotografiet SR 2006:0096 er noteret følgende med maskinskrift: Danish seamen in the battle of the Atlantic. Early in 1942 a large Danish Merchant ship, in the service of Gt. Britain, was torpedoed in the Atlantic, 400 miles from land. The crew of 50 were all rescued thanks to the vigilance of the R.A.F. Coastal Command. After having drifted for 40 hours in the swell they were discovered by a Sunderland Flying Boat and rescued soon after. Keystone Picture 450208.
